The year-end function is one of the most important decisions a business makes in Q4. Get it right and you're building culture, rewarding your team, and ending the year on a high. Get it wrong and you're spending money on a forgettable evening at a venue that treated you like a booking reference. At Zizi's, we've hosted enough year-end events to know exactly what makes the difference — and it starts long before the evening itself.
Three Spaces, One Address
Whether you're a team of 20 celebrating a big year or a company of 200 throwing an end-of-year party to remember, we have a space that fits. The intimate Simba Room seats 30 guests — perfect for an executive dinner or a small team celebration. The Shaka Room holds 120, ideal for a sit-down company function with speeches and toasts. And for the big occasion, our landscaped gardens can host up to 250 guests under the open KZN sky, with two outdoor firepits as your centrepiece. The beauty of Zizi's is that your headcount can change and your venue doesn't have to.
Chef Dillon's Kitchen
The food at a year-end function should feel like a reward, not an afterthought. Head Chef Dillon Naicker — who trained at the South African Hospitality Institute and honed his craft at The Oyster Box in Umhlanga — builds menus for our functions the same way he builds the regular menu: with genuine care and a real point of view. His speciality is seafood, and a year-end function at Zizi's is the perfect occasion to let him show what the KZN coast can do. From fresh seafood spreads to wood-fired pizza stations during arrival drinks, to plated dinners with locally sourced produce from our own garden — the kitchen here is not a catering operation. It's the real thing.
The Setting Does the Work
Atmosphere is hard to manufacture and easy to ruin with the wrong venue. Zizi's doesn't manufacture anything — the gardens are genuinely beautiful, the two firepits crackle to life as the evening cools, and the KZN coastline is a five-minute walk away. There's something about an outdoor year-end in this part of the world — the warmth still in the air, the smell of the sea, the firelight on people's faces — that no conference centre or hotel ballroom can replicate. If you want your team to walk away feeling like the year meant something, give them an evening that looks and feels like it did.
A Team That Actually Cares
The difference between a venue that hosts events and one that runs them well is almost entirely the people. Zizi's is a family-owned restaurant, part of Summit Family Group alongside Umdlalo Lodge and Umdlalo Spa. When you book a function here, you're not dealing with a faceless events department — you're working directly with a team that takes it personally. Our hospitality manager and restaurant team have run everything from intimate birthday dinners to 200-person outdoor events. They know the venue inside out, they anticipate what's needed, and they're the kind of staff who make your guests feel welcome the moment they arrive. For guests who want to make a night of it, Umdlalo Lodge's 8 en-suite rooms are right on-site — no one has to drive home.
Location That Works for Everyone
Umtentweni sits right on the N2, making Zizi's straightforward to reach from across the South Coast — whether your team is coming from Port Shepstone, Margate, Shelly Beach, or making the drive down from Durban. We're five minutes from Umtentweni beach, and the surrounding Hibiscus Coast makes it easy to turn a year-end function into a mini getaway for your team. Guests coming from further afield can stay at Umdlalo Lodge and wake up to a sea breeze the next morning. It's the kind of location that turns a work function into something your team genuinely looks forward to.
Q4 books up fast on the South Coast. If you're thinking about your year-end function, the time to secure the date is now — not in October.
Year-end functions at Zizi's are available from October through December, across all three of our spaces. We work with you on menus, setup, and anything else that makes your event yours. Get in touch with our functions team to talk through your brief — we'd love to be part of your year-end.
